The news today, well actually probably the news was yesterday, is that Joomla 3.7.5 is out. We're going to be taking a look at how to update that and also will just talk about a few things.
It's been a while since I've done anything on the channel this week. I’ve been super busy with some projects for clients and stuff happening in life so I thought why not go on just for this small update and see if anyone shows up on chat and also as you know I've been having terrible luck with the sound on Live Stream so I'm going to keep at it, keep practicing.
Before we look at this bug release 3.7.5 that's out, let's head on over to the screen here and here we are at the Joomla.org site and it's a bug fix release 3.7.5 out today. Basically, all this does is fix one little bug, one problem: Joomla is not installing on a remote database. So, for those of you that are doing that, installing Joomla on a remote database, who use a remote database, then you really want to have this update and that will help you get going along.
Now before we get into looking at how to update this I just want to remind you that every month we have a giveaway here in the Basic Joomla site and Basic Joomla Channel: a one-year MyJoomla.com membership to manage one site. The August giveaway is underway and you'll see right now there's only twelve entries, so that looks like pretty good odds if you're going to enter and try to win that. That of course is Phil Taylor's site for managing your Joomla site and doing lots of scans and that we give away at the end of each month. Go to basicJoomla.com/giveaways and you'll find a link for entering and lots of ways to enter.
Let's head over to the backend of the basicJoomla.com site and we'll see, here's the Joomla update that's ready to be installed. As always make sure you back-up your site using Akeeba because you never know what might happen when you're doing anything on your site. Keep regular backups, especially when you're doing something like this.
All right so to update Joomla we're simply going to either click the “update now” button or we're going to go to components and we'll use “Joomla update.” Now if Joomla update is not showing up on your menu I have a tutorial on some of the reasons that that might be and how you could fix that. Let's go to "Joomla update" this way and then we see, here it is ready to install. I'll click on "install the Update" button because I've already got a back-up. My Joomla sites back up - most of them - every day. Here we go. We’ll install the file and it's going to download and zoom across the screen and do its running and then once that update is complete we're all good.
I would suggest just clean the cache on your Joomla site, and as you know I use Clean Cache from Regular Labs. You can use this button here or down at the bottom which I can't zoom on these Live Streams. You could use the clean cache button at the bottom. But we'll clean that and it's always good to give your site a test after doing work, so let's preview - and there it's all working. There's my mug and things are up to date.
So, hey, if you haven't subscribed to the channel, please do. Subscribe, ring the bell so you get notifications and you will get updates not only of these Live Streams but also new tutorials as I make them. There are new tutorials coming.
Thanks for watching. As always, enjoy your Joomla sites, and God bless.
